1953 - 2010

The Renegades team and the SFGSL community lost a fiercely loyal member when Tom Zerucha passed away in early August at the age of 57. A native of Ohio, Zerucha attended Ohio State University. As a San Francisco resident, he was a middle school teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District. Tom was a star pitcher, first baseman, and power hitter for the Renegades from 2000 through 2010, and helped guide the team through numerous division and league championships. In the early part of the decade, the Renegades went to three consecutive NAGAA GSL World Series tournaments -- placing third in Portland in 2003. He was also a notable member of World Series' in Toronto in 2000 and in San Francisco in 2001. He was a key contributor to numerous tournaments in which the Renegades competed, including Russian River, Phoenix, Palm Springs, San Jose and the Golden Bear Classic here in the Bay Area. September 10, 1959 - January 6, 2010

Long-time San Francisco resident Kevin Snow, born in Portsmouth, VA, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Dallas, TX while traveling to his Uncle Jimmy’s funeral. Kevin served in the US Navy, attended the University of Missouri - Kansas City, and lived and worked in Kansas City, Missouri for many years. Kevin’s greatest gift was his incredible sense of humor - which he parlayed into a career both onstage performing stand-up comedy and as a Vice President of GPS-MIS for Bank of America in San Francisco. Possibly the pinnacle of his comedy career was when the Birmingham ABC TV station refused to air the “coming out” episode of the Ellen Show, and GLAAD worked with locals including Kevin as event host to air the show via satellite. Kevin is survived by his husband Tim Williams and their kitty Earl Patrick Williams-Snow, his Mother Mary Etta Snow, numerous siblings and many friends all over the world. 1947 - 2008

Little did Teresa and Pasquale Maggio know that on August 4, 1947, they brought into the world a very special little bambino. Angelo Vittorio Maggio was born in Rapallo Italy and in the same vain as many Europeans, his family decided to come to America in a search for new opportunities. The family settled in the Bay Area in the late 50's and San Francisco would never be the same. Angelo grew up in the Potrero Hill neighborhood and quickly adapted to American youth culture. As a younger man, Angelo enlisted in the Coast Guard and was stationed at Treasure Island for the entire time of his service. Once out in the civilian world again, he experimented with many career choices, including acting, but then landed a job with Sunset Scavengers. It was at this time that he got involved in the San Francisco Community Softball League by playing with Dino's Liquors in the early 1970's. 1965 - 2006

Joe Cooper was born at Hillcrest Hospital in Petaluma, January 15, 1965 and died at his home in Petaluma on November 15, 2006 after a year long struggle with cancer. He was 41. During his last days, Joe was surrounded by family. He is survived by his parents Ray and Dodie Cooper, his brothers Ray Cooper, Jr. and Alvin Cooper. His grandmother, Faye Busalacchi predeceased him, March 6, 2006. Joe was the principal caregiver for his grandmother with whom he shared a special bond. Joe was born and raised in Petaluma California and also lived in San Francisco for much of his adult life. Joe's occupations were many but most recently centered around the real estate market. He owned property in Rohnert Park, Petaluma, San Francisco and Palm Springs. He loved to travel and spent a lot of time in Palm Springs, as well as other destinations throughout the World. 1952 - 2006

Patricia Gail Price "Patty" passed away June 15, 2006 at home in San Leandro, after a nearly three-year struggle with the complications of and treatment for ovarian cancer. She was 54. Born May 17, 1952, she grew up in Denver, CO, and moved to the Bay Area when she was in her mid-30s. Patty had an unwavering commitment to social justice, developed, she said, through the influence of her parents and her Catholic School upbringing. She was a very active member of student government at the University of Colorado, Boulder, during particularly turbulent times. After graduation in 1976 from the University of Denver Law School, Patty spent 28 years as a public interest attorney, in both Colorado and California. She practiced throughout the Bay Area, effectively advocating for the rights of children, battered women, and people who were poor, disabled, or otherwise disenfranchised. Among the highlights of her career: during the 1990s, she was the director of the Public Interest Law Firm in San Jose, where she was the original attorney for the plaintiffs in…[more]
